Review // Peri Pera Ink Velvet vs Peri Pera Airy Ink Velvet

I’m big on lip tints as it is but anyone who knows me well enough can vouch for just how much I ADORE Peri Pera’s formula. I’ve been an avid user of their Ink Velvet line, #7 Dollish Beige Rose being my favorite one out of all the shades. I can’t even count how many people I’ve recommended this brand to already; I’m literally Peri Pera’s biggest hypewoman 😂

So when I saw that they launched a new product line of tints with a different formula called the Airy Ink Velvet line, I couldn’t resist buying one to try it out.

For today’s post, I’ll be doing a comparison and mini review of the two lip tint formulas. A little spoiler — I actually love both (if that weren’t obvious enough already 😂)!PERI PERA INK VELVET

Packaging: In terms of packaging, the two lip tint lines do not differ all that much. They all come inside a dropper like packaging with a really convenient and easy to use doe foot applicator. I do like how the Airy Ink Velvets come inside frosted glass inspired bottles, making it very fitting with the type of product it offers, while the original Ink Velvet comes inside a traditional matte finish bottle, to differentiate the two formulas. As for the design, both are very simple and use a minimal number of colors, but still manage to look cute and trendy.

Lip swatch of Peri Pera Ink Velvelt #7 Dollish Beige RoseTexture: The Ink Velvets actually feel more like a mousse than a tint. It applies and dries like a liquid lipstick, so if you press your lips together, you can definitely feel the creamy velvet texture. This formula is not drying at all, and is actually pretty moisturising! The downside of this is that it’s very much not transfer-proof and smudges. Unlike liquid lipsticks though, this stains on the lips like other lip tints, so it’s not just pigmented, but also very long lasting. I kind of feel that this product is a bit sticky compared to other lip tint formulas and takes some time to dry. Even when it does dry, it doesn’t really settle into a completely matte finish, but still leaves a bit of shine.

Lip swatch of Peri Pera Airy Ink Velvelt #5 Elf Light Rose

As for the Airy Ink Velvets, they seriously glide over your lips so smoothly like air, that you won’t even feel them! They’re very light, like weightless mousse, and dries into a matte finish. These aren’t as pigmented or as long lasting as the Ink Velvets, but it’s very build-able so you can take your time to apply more coats if necessary to increase color payoff. But then, that totally varies based on personal preference, as I myself like a more natural tint on my lips, so I don’t really apply a lot.

Top: Airy Ink Velvet #5 Elf Light Rose

Bottom:Ink Velvet #7 Dollish Beige Rose

Application: Both products are applied using a doe foot applicator, which is very convenient and practical to use. I don’t have much qualms about the application for both, though there are some things to consider in terms of the formula once applied. For the Ink Velvets, they’re really prone to discoloration, as after a few hours of wearing the lip tint, or even after eating, the original color tends to fade and leaves a fuschia orange stain on the lips. The color isn’t all that bad, and it looks pretty decent on some people, but for others, a touch up may be necessary.

For the Airy Ink Velvets, as they’re very light, the product easily fades away especially after eating. I personally don’t mind retouching so I have no issues about this at all. I’ve never been the type to especially favor really long lasting products, as I feel more comfortable knowing that I can remove my makeup anytime I want, so retouching has never really bothered me.  Not to say this formula doesn’t stain — because it does. It’s just less pigmented and lighter compared to the Ink Velvet formula, so it leaves a very light color on the lips once it fades. So if you feel like that isn’t enough, then you can opt for a retouch.

Scent: The Ink Velvets have a slight floral scent, while the Airy Ink Velvets smell like soap. Obviously, I prefer the floral one. I’m not a big fan of the soap scent, since I can especially taste it when I apply it on the lips, but I don’t mind it that much that I’d stop using the product altogether.

Value for Money: PHP450 is a pretty decent price for a lip product. It’s actually a bit more expensive compared to other lip tint products, especially watery tints, but I think given its moussey consistency, this one is definitely worth the price.

Verdict: I really really love both products! I use both products for different purposes, so I can’t exactly say which one is better. I think I’m slightly leaning towards the Airy Ink Velvets more in terms of comfort and wearability because I use them more often and find them such nice everyday lippies. They’re very natural and comfortable on the lips. As for the Ink Velvets, I prefer using them during special occasions or if I feel like dressing up since they’re highly pigmented. It really depends on your preference.

Both formulas aren’t perfect but the few issues I have for both products are very negligible. I also love all the shades and they’re all very wearable! I’m actually eyeing more shades to buy so expect more posts and swatches.  Looks like I’ll be continuing on with my Peri Pera propaganda! 😂

  1. The Airy Ink Velvet has just won three awards at Beautytap and I’ve heard so many raves for it this year that I feel I must try it out soon! Although I’m on a no-buy for lip products! X

      1. It’s true, it’s really tough haha! It’s just I have a lot, don’t have lots of room for them, and want to actually use my lipsticks instead of being obsessed with them for only a week before buying a new one. It’s actually working quite well so far but we are only on the first month so we shall see! X

  2. Great review!! This is the first time I’ve ever heard of these lip stains, I’m in love! I’m from the U.S. and just found some on Amazon. I think I’m leaning towards the Ink Velvet because it doesn’t seem as matte as the Airy Ink Velvet. They both look so beautiful on you! Thanks for sharing 🙂
